    Director of Hub Operations - United Tote (Louisville, KY)

    Position Objective:
    Responsible for the management of all hub operations and teams for United Tote, a leading technology and service provider for the pari-mutuel gaming industry. This includes primary responsibility for the hub operations in Kentucky, Oregon and Ontario, Canada. Continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility with a focus on enhancing process and productivity will be critical for the success of the incumbent. Oversees day-to-day functions of overall tote operation centers, including hiring, scheduling, training, terminations and staff development at the tote operations centers, preparing paperwork for racetrack and corporate offices, trouble reports, incident reports, ordering supplies, troubleshooting, implementing and complying with severity policy, and interacting with state racing officials and internal and external auditors.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Directs process improvement for all the United Tote hub operations.
    • Responsible for the day-to-day functions of the enterprise-wide tote operation.
    • Develops and manages operational KPIs.
    • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; maintaining a safe, secure and legal work environment; developing personal growth opportunities.
    • Ensures staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring and appraising job results; coaching, counseling and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies, procedures and productivity standards.
    • Accomplishes financial goals by preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions.
    • Ensures that all hub activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and laws governing business operations.
    • Develops inter-department cooperation and instills a philosophy of teamwork for the entire staff.
    • Responsible for the timely preparation of other paperwork our partners, auditors and the corporate office requests, such as incident and trouble reports.
    • Responsible for the timely completion of reporting necessary for corporate security and operations compliance.
    • Acts as a strategic partner to ensure hub operational efficiencies and hub related goals and objectives are being met.
    • Oversees execution of special racing event preparation and race day monitoring.
    • Oversees and drives customer support excellence.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:
    Western Hub Manager, Ontario Hub Manager, Assistant Hub Manager

    Education, Training, Licenses and Experience:
    Preferred: Undergraduate degree and a minimum of three years of process, operations or IT management related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience and certification in ITIL version 2 or 3 is desired.
    Must obtain and maintain all required licenses required by the states in which tote operates.

    SUMMARY:

    Tote system data entry and verification work, reports and paperwork for racetrack and/or corporate office, train new employees, maintains, operates, setup, or troubleshoot boards and auxiliary odds boards. Prepares and maintains UT equipment, repairs, maintains and cleans betting terminals, installs and tears down equipment, stock ticket paper on betting lines, unloads ticket stock from freight truck, labeling, packaging, and shipping reordering spare parts, loads and unloads equipment, maintain and repair infield or auxiliary display boards, and other tasks as required.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    ·         Tote system data entry and verification.

    ·         Preparation of reports/paperwork for the racetrack and/or corporate office.

    ·         Assist in the shipping, loading or unloading of company equipment and/or supplies.

    ·         Labeling, packaging, shipping and re-ordering of spare parts.

    ·         Assist in the training of new employees and Line Technicians

    ·         Maintain, operate, setup or troubleshoot tote boards and auxiliary odds boards.

    ·         Operation of the communications equipment used at the racetrack.

    ·         Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of United Tote equipment.

    ·         Equipment installation and tear down.

    ·         Stocking of ticket paper on betting lines.

    ·         Unloading of ticket stock from freight trucks.

    ·         Perform minor repairs on terminal components, test components, correctly package components for shipment and order replacement components.

    ·         Develop wiring and soldering skills.

    SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: 

    Must have understanding of what pari-mutuel wagering is and United Tote’s role at the racetrack.   Must be able to interact with association personnel in a professional and efficient manner. Must be able to understand configurations of the Tote room hardware, i.e. modems, multiplexers, consoles, display controllers and printers. Familiarity with the Tote Board installation and operation.

    Understand the system reports and know what information is reported.  Understand how prices are calculated and become familiar with the State rules and regulations.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

    High School Diploma or GED.   Line technician experience and electrical and/or computer experience preferred.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

    Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age, able to be licensed by state racing commission, able to work flexible work hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.   Some travel may be required as the workloads dictate. Must be punctual and have reliable transportation.
