Asst. Racing Secretary - Fair Grounds OTB & Casino (New Orleans, LA)

Position Objective:

Assists the Racing Secretary in the implementation of the organization's live thoroughbred racing program

 

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Records daily entries and checks for proper weight and eligibility under conditions of the race.
  • Updates scratch line information.
  • Maintains tabulations relative to horses eligibility.
  • Oversees the draw of each days races, determining preference of horses if race overfills.
  • Assists Racing Secretary in establishing weights for handicaps.
  • Performs final check of weights and eligibility of horses with the aid of the Daily Racing Form, Equibase and Incompass System.
  • Maintains contact with horsemen to ensure they have not overlooked stakes or racing opportunities.
  • Assistants Director of Racing/Racing Secretary in preparing condition books.

§  Confers with Placing Judges to assure accuracy of the program proof.

A Video Poker Cashier is responsible for cashing all video poker tickets efficiently for the patrons. Position Objective:

Oversees the operations of the jockeys' room

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Verifies the presence of all jockeys in the jockeys' room at the appointed time.
  • Verifies that all jockeys have a current jockey's license issued by the commission.
  • Verifies the correct weight of jockey at the time of weighing out and weighing in and reports any discrepancies to the stewards immediately.
  • Oversees the security of the jockeys' room including the conduct of jockeys and their attendants.
  • Reports to the stewards any infractions of the rules with respect to weight, weighting, riding equipment, or conduct.
  • Records all required data on the scale sheet and submits the data to the horsemen's bookkeeper at the end of each race.
  • Maintains the record of applicable winning races on all apprentice certificates in the meet.
  • Release apprentice jockey certificates, upon the jockey's departure or upon the conclusion of the race meet.
  • Assumes the duties of the jockey Room custodian in the absence of such employee.
  • Ensures the safekeeping of all racing colors.
  • Reports all color changes, weight changes or jockey changes from that listed in the official program and causing same to be posted and announced before each race.
  • Supervises all valets and the issuance of numbered saddle cloths and equipment for each horse.
  • Ensures the accuracy of the scales and the periodic tests thereof.
  • Transmits to the Stewards all complaints, protests, objections, or disputes.
  • Alerts valets in the event of a claim to see that horse is returned to the paddock after the race to transfer ownership.
  • Maintains a film list of riders whom the Stewards feel should review such films.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  •    Performs Mid-Level/Tier guest responsibility
  •    Market and recruit new guests and other customers to property.
  •    Establish professional relationships with mid-level/tier guests and support the Direct Mail Loyalty program.
  •    Maintain a constant touch with mid-level/ tier worth guests by communicating with them.

Position Objective:

Coordinate all stakes races during the Thoroughbred season

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assemble and attract quality racing talent from across the country.
  • Interface on all levels with owners, trainers and agents.
  • Provide and keep up with in-depth knowledge of racing rules, regulations and general thoroughbred racetrack operations.
  • Look up similar races throughout country or horses that have run races that would make them stakes horses and contact trainers to see if want to nominate
  • After nomination to race closes put out list of horses, owners and trainers
  • Contact trainers and send them past performances information on all nominations.
  • Keep in continual contact with owners and trainers to ensure entries are received.
  • Assists in the taking of entries, scratches, declaration, and subscriptions and any other duties that may be required to assist in the daily operations of the racing office.

§  Assist the Assistant Racing director in determining eligibility, and verifying weights carried and may on occasion do the draw for post.
