    Technical Services: Producer
    Executive Producer, Broadcast Operations - Churchill Downs Racetrack (Louisville, KY)



    The Executive Producer, Broadcast Operations will oversee the simulcast and in-venue video board production teams for Churchill Downs Racetrack & The Kentucky Derby.  This role is responsible for delivering a reliable and high-quality live broadcast and in-venue experience to fans both at the racetrack and across the country.


    Essential Duties

    Include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Produce simulcast broadcast of live racing & related data displays for nationwide wagering:

      • Set editorial vision for program content

      • Oversee crew selection & scheduling

      • Manage vendor and talent contracts & relationships

      • Ensure compliance with Kentucky Horse Racing Commission regulations

    • Produce fan engaging live in-venue video board show:

      • Set editorial vision for program content

      • Oversee content development & production via vendor agency

      • Coordinate and manage execution of internal department needs including: racing, wagering, sponsorship, group sales, marketing & communications

    • Manage distribution of on-site and 3rd party video & audio signals within facility

      • Develop & execute strategy for both proactive and reactive troubleshooting and maintenance

      • Design policies & procedures in partnership with Facility Operations to address guest experience issues

    • Coordinate with and support 3rd party media outlets broadcasting on site

      • Manage fulfillment of internal and 3rd party requests for video assets

    • Oversee production of video content to support marketing & other internal initiatives

      • Coordinate in-house and freelance producers, videographers & editors

      • Produce live stream broadcasts of key events & press conferences

    • Lead broadcast infrastructure capital planning & business case development

      • Work with project management & broadcast engineering to ensure successful project execution

    • Manage video production & broadcast operations budget



    Supervisory Responsibilities

    • 2 full time employees including Director of Broadcast Engineering & Production Operations Manager

    • 2-5 contract employees including in-venue video board producer/TD, video content producers, track announcer and on-air racing analyst

    • 10+ seasonal production staff


    Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities

    • 7+ years professional experience managing live event broadcast production

    • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university.

    • Candidates will be required to provide samples of work during the interview process.

    • Experience managing a live-event broadcast & video production team

      • Understanding of the technical requirements of a broadcast operation & ability to clearly communicate technical details to upper management

      • Extensive budget management & scheduling experience

      • Experience with capital planning & capital infrastructure project execution

      • Experience working with national media broadcast partners

    • Vision for what drives live viewer experience & engagement

    • Vision for how to achieve technical quality & efficiency

    • Proven ability to collaborate with & lead a cross functional team

    • Skilled in working inter-departmentally to support other’s needs for production services

    • Highly detail oriented, self-motivated, able to multi-task and work independently with above-average organizational skills

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working in the Thoroughbred Horse Racing industry

    Working Conditions

    Weekend and evening work required during live racing meets.  Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Must be able to maneuver around the racetrack and withstand hot/cold conditions.

    Position Summary

    The Director of IT oversees the management of the daily functions of the IT department and work collaboratively with the enterprise IT team to ensure that the information needs of various departments on property are met. The goal is to ensure the smooth operations, future expansion potential, reliability, and accessibly of computer system resources.  Including, but not limited to, back office systems, front of house systems, telecommunications, and networking.

    Essential Job Functions

    1.  Provides strategic direction for IT department.

    2.  Plans, directs, coordinates and reviews the work of assigned team members; assigns work activities, projects and programs; reviews and evaluates work products, methods and procedures; ensures guest service; meets with team members to identify and resolve problems.

    3.  Selects, trains, motivates and evaluates assigned team members; provides team member training; works with team members to correct deficiencies; implements and or approves discipline as appropriate.

    4.  Analyzes, develops, implements and recommends IT solutions.

    5.  Creates and maintains project portfolio for property; manages multiple initiatives simultaneously

    6.  Responsible for ensuring property data and security are not compromised.

    7.  Maintains data integrity and documentation for all computer networks and personnel computers through proper backup, recovery and information security policies, procedures and practices.

    8.  Defines and maintains IT budget and capital expenditures including, but not limited to, expenditures, capital requests, labor and variance reporting in accordance with department, property and enterprise IT objectives.

    9.  Creates and ensures processes and procedures are in place and executed to meet SOX, PCI and Regulatory compliance controls.

    10. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required. 

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelors of Science from an accredited university in an IT related field preferred (e.g. MIS, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, etc.).
    • Must have a minimum of five years’ experience in IT systems or network/server administration.
    • Possession of, and ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers and licensing within assigned state of employment
    • Possession of, and ability to obtain and maintain a valid racing and/or gaming commission license within the assigned state of employment
    • Available to work a schedule that aligns with the racing calendar including approximately 32 Saturdays, Sundays, and nights over the course of a calendar year.
    • Must successfully pass background check
    • Must successfully pass an alcohol and drug screening
    • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age

    Knowledge of:
    Broad knowledge of IT Operations and related operational activities; principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation; principles and procedures of proper record keeping; principles of writing and basic report preparation; methods and techniques of budget preparation and administration.

    Ability to:

    JOB TITLE: Maintenance Person

    DEPARTMENT: Frontside Maintenance – Churchill Downs Racetrack

    JOB/FLSA STATUS: Full-Time, Hourly


    The Frontside Maintenance Dept. at Churchill Downs Racetrack has an immediate opening for a maintenance person to perform a variety of maintenance functions and to perform other related duties, as assigned.


    ·         Must have a minimum of (5) five years of proven experience involving maintenance trades including but not limited to plumbing, carpentry, painting, masonry, electrical and other basic maintenance skills.

    ·         Must have a minimum or (1) one year of proven experience in commercial facility maintenance, per the above.

    ·         Have above average computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products and is a plus if familiar with either Adobe Photoshop or Corel Draw graphics programs.

    ·         Must be able to operate maintenance equipment such as forklift, two-man lift, sweeper truck and various power tools.

    ·         High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required. Additional education or training such as trade vocational school in maintenance subjects and certificates and other training records are a plus.

    ·         Must possess a valid driver’s license.


    ·         The ability to regularly lift and/or move a minimum of ten (10) pounds, frequently lift and/or move twenty five (25) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move fifty (50) pounds.

    Our Security Officers guard company property against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.


    -Patrols all buildings, ground facilities and properties owned and/or operated by Churchill Downs on foot, by vehicle or other mode(s) of transportation.

    -Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine they are secure.

    -Warns violators of rule infractions such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles. Promptly alerts appropriate supervisor of persons engaged in suspicious or criminal acts.

    -Proactively observes and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.

    -Performs monthly inspections of all fire extinguishers in all buildings, ground facilities and properties owned and/or operated by Churchill Downs.

    Prepares and maintains UT equipment, repairs, maintains and cleans betting terminals, installs and tears down equipment, stock ticket paper on betting lines, unloads ticket stock from freight truck, labeling, packaging, and shipping reordering spare parts, loads and unloads equipment, maintain and repair infield or auxiliary display boards, and other tasks as required.


    ·         Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of United Tote equipment.

    ·         Repair, maintenance and cleaning of the betting terminals.

    ·         Equipment installation and tear down.

    ·         Stocking of ticket paper on betting lines.

    ·         Unloading of ticket stock from freight trucks.

    ·         Labeling, packaging, shipping and re-ordering of spare parts.

    ·         Unloading and loading of equipment on company or freight trucks.

    ·         Maintenance and repair of the infield or auxiliary display boards.

    ·         Perform minor repairs on terminal components, test components, correctly package components for shipment and order replacement components.

    ·         Develop wiring and soldering skills.

    ·         Understand how the terminals communicate with the Tote system.

    ·         Develop an understanding of the different wagers offered and be able to answer questions relating to the different wagers.

    ·         Other duties as assigned.



    Familiarity with the United Tote communications equipment, i.e. modems and multiplexers, Tote Board installation and operation is desired.  Must be able to interact with association personnel and patrons in a professional and efficient manner.


    Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.  Familiarity with pari-mutuel betting is desired.  Race track experience and electrical and/or computer experience us preferred.


    Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age, able to be licensed by state racing commission, able to work flexible work hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.  

    Seasonal employment dates:  May 10, 2016 through June 30, 2017

    Days of the Week:  Wednesday and Friday; some weekends possible

    Hours per day:  8-10

    Approximate pay rate: $12.00
