SUMMARY
The Sales Manager is responsible for selling all corporate hospitality products including permanent suites (Jockey Club & Finish Line) and temporary suites (Trackside Village, First Turn Suites and Turf Suites).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve as direct liaison with all assigned corporate sales constituencies.
  • Actively sell and promote Churchill Downs enthusiastically as a suite and corporate hospitality opportunity.
  • Responsible for developing new sales clients/markets and building client relationships through various sales efforts including research, cold calls, site visits and outside sales calls.
  • Monitor other sport venue trends and issues in the area of suite and corporate hospitality sales.
  • Create customized proposals based on client’s business objectives.
  • Responsible for achieving sales revenue goals through active sales and renewals to include cross-selling group sales functions, marketing initiatives/programs, etc.
  • Negotiate proposals and contracts for suite sales and corporate hospitality packages and work with legal department on creation of documents.
  • Develop and build relationships with customers through excellent interpersonal skills and exceptional customer service.
  • Maintain an effective integration of sales efforts with all departments to ensure that all sales events have an impressive impact on guests.
  • Champion suite sales and corporate hospitality objectives on all on-going management issues.
  • Represent Churchill Downs while attending various business and association meetings in an effort to gain new business through networking and professional relationship building.
  • Conduct site surveys and tours of facility.
  • Work with clients to identify their needs, create WOW experiences, and communicate these needs to the Fulfillment Manager to ensure success.
  • Provide constant communication and necessary assistance to the assigned Fulfillment Manager.
  • Work as sales team member in assisting as additional requests arise.
  • Provide exceptional customer service at all times.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Sales & Marketing: Event Operations/Management
Operations Manager - Churchill Downs Entertainment Group (Louisville, KY)

SUMMARY
Coordinates and execute the administration, and implementation of all CDE events. Responsible for ensuring the operational elements of the events are kept within budgetary restraints to help ensure that CDE minimizes expenses.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING. OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED
• Serve as the primary CDE liaison with vendors to facilitate the accurate and timely information exchange involved in the planning, design, development, and operation of the Event.
• Responsible bidding, selecting and implementing the services of local vendors. Works directly with all vendors to coordinate their operations.
• Serves as secondary liaison with representatives of all entities doing business in connection with the Event.
• Responsible for the construction/production schedule exclusive to the Event. This includes (but is not limited to): securing construction equipment used by staff and working with vendors and the host site to ensure a successful construction and teardown of the event.
• Assists in executing a solid parking and traffic plan.
• Assists with executing a successful medical/first-aid plan.
• Directs the planning of the media compound and space needs.
• Directs the planning of ecology and litter patrol requirements. This includes (but is not limited to): determining the appropriate ecology areas, determining the ecology schedule, selecting an ecology vendor, and working with ecology vendor to ensure a successful event.
• Helps to coordinate all deliveries and the delivery schedule for the Event. This includes (but is not limited to): trailers, furniture, radios, office equipment, etc.
• Updates and seeks annual improvement of various organizational tools/documents for communicating the operations and administration needs of the Event.
• Develop and manage the event credential system to ensure all vendors and special guests have appropriate access rights while maintaining appropriate event security.
• Assist in activating sponsorship programs.
• Develop and execute onsite event and special traffic signage plans
• Performs all other duties as requested.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate will have held operations management or support positions with financial accountability, ideally in a successful major consumer oriented sports or entertainment environment. This individual is self-confident, with a strong work ethic; and is the type of person who has successfully implemented plans that have improved program effectiveness and positively impacted bottom-line results.
• Undergraduate degree required.
• Three to five years experience with increasing responsibility in large scale event or management field.
• Experience in sports or major entertainment event management preferred.
• Superior initiative with outstanding organization and motivational skills.

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
• Supervises Non-Exempt employees (varies by Event).
• Manage operational vendors.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
• Must adhere to budgetary guidelines established prior to each event.

Track/Slot Operations: Security
Security Officer - Churchill Downs Race Track (Louisville, KY)

Our Security Officers guard company property against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Patrols all buildings, ground facilities and properties owned and/or operated by Churchill Downs on foot, by vehicle or other mode(s) of transportation.

Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine they are secure.

Warns violators of rule infractions such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles. Promptly alerts appropriate supervisor of persons engaged in suspicious or criminal acts.

Proactively observes and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.

Performs monthly inspections of all fire extinguishers in all buildings, ground facilities and properties owned and/or operated by Churchill Downs.

Observes arriving personnel and/or patrons to ensure against inappropriate material or objects being brought onto company property.

Observes departing personnel and/or patrons to guard against theft of company, employee or patron property.

Records data such as: property damage, unusual incidents, and malfunctioning equipment in appropriate format (including incident reports).

Regulates vehicle and pedestrian traffic at all entrances to maintain orderly flow.

Sign for and accept deliveries.

Answers telephones and relays messages after normal business hours.

Perform other related duties, as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED or 1 to 3 months of related experience and/or training is required.
A valid driver’s license is required.

Simulcast Engineer - Churchill Downs Simulcast Productions (Louisville, KY)

SUMMARY

CDSP is seeking a television engineer to be part of Churchill Downs Simulcast Productions, a mobile television production business specializing in horse-racing simulcast production.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Maintain, repair, and install Broadcast Equipment supporting live sports production in three Mobile Television Units.
• Set up and tear out of equipment at six racetracks including camera build up, video and audio feeds, signal testing
• Provide technical support to Unit managers / TV crew in person, via telephone, or email.
• Order replacement parts, coordinate and track equipment repairs.
• Plan and provide CATV feeds to over 100 televisions in temporary locations. i.e Kentucky Derby/Breeder’s Cup.
• Provide support to auxiliary TV productions (local networks, etc)

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will have no direct reports.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum 5 years experience working in the television production field as an engineer/technician
• Understanding of both analog and digital electronics (CVBS, SD-SDI and HD-SDI) with ability to troubleshoot to board/component level
• Working knowledge of Computer Systems and Networks as they relate to a broadcast environment
• Experience troubleshooting computers across networks.
• Cable termination – audio, video, data, CATV
• DVD authoring / file transcoding – Adobe Encore, Grass Valley Edius
• Systems experience in Production switchers, Audio/Video Routers, Tape Servers, VTR’s, Hard Disk Recorders, Audio Consoles, Test Equipment, Intercom/ IFB systems.
• Basic skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This job requires frequent travel around the country sometimes for extended periods such as 2-3 weeks at a time. It also requires hands-on ability to set up all aspects of a mobile television production operation. Weekend and evening work required.

Must be able to climb 50 foot camera towers, lift at least 50lbs, and distinguish colors.
