Administration/General Management: Human Resources Management
Human Resources Manager - Arlington International Racecourse (Arlington Heights, IL)

Arlington International Racecourse, leader in the sport of horse racing and entertainment, is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager for our growing and dynamic organization.

Position Objective:

The HR Manager develops and implements HR strategies, systems, procedures and initiatives in alignment with the overall business strategy for the track and off track betting facilities.  

                      

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs the development of operational strategies; streamlines and enhances systems, tracking, reporting, and analysis. Recommends new approaches to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed

  • Administers and interprets procedures; provides advice and counsel on sound administrative and personnel practices, policies, and ensures compliance with laws and regulations

  • Reviews and recommends revisions to policies, procedures, and practices on company and human resources matters. Manages employee handbook maintenance; communicates changes in company policy and procedure and ensures compliance

  • Oversees and updates human resource information system (HRIS), forms, documents, etc.

  • Assists in managing employee relations and advises management on methodes and approches

  • Handles advertising and recruitment of all personnel (including seasonal employees), maintains and updates job descriptions

  • Oversees onboarding and new hire process. Manages development and delivery of New Employee Orientation program for seasonal employees

  • Develops and maintains relationships with local high schools, colleges, and recruitment centers

  • Creates annual incentive levels and manages the employee reward program

  • Administers performance appraisals, reviews, promotions and compensation program

  • Maintains confidential personnel records in compliance with state, federal and corporate guidelines

  • Maintains Worker’s Compensation claims, files and coordinates OSHA reporting for track and OTB locations

  • Monitors bi-weekly payroll, audits timekeeping system and acts as liaison between managers and Payroll department

  • Develops and conducts training programs for all employees and departments; directs Professional Development Program

  • Assists in working on the front line with various departments throughout the race meet

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • A minimum of five years of human resources management and service delivery experience including advanced generalist skills and proven ability to manage and lead both day-to-day department operations and to navigate organizational issues

Off Track Betting Facility Manager - - Arlington International Racecourse - Green Oaks OTB (Green Oaks, IL)

Job Summary:

Responsible for managing the wagering operation of a License Agreement Partner-Owned facility in Green Oaks, Illinois.

You will be responsible for the development and growth of employees, sales and profits in the specific areas of food services and pari-mutuels.

The job includes management of the entire physical facility in accordance with established company standards, policies and procedures. The incumbent optimizes profits by controlling cost of goods, labor costs and general and overhead expenses.

Essential Functions:

  • Directly manages and schedules Service Supervisor staff, while performing similar duties to enhance and maintain an overall customer-focused business

  • Responsible for cash handling and accountability of all wagering and business related receipts and funds

  • In a working management position, responsible for, but not limited to; television operations, wagering operations and education, program production and sales, customer education, and routine wagering terminal service

  • Communicates, maintaining positive and productive working relationship with the business/property owner

  • Operational planning and implementation of plan to include: budgeting for profit planning, sales forecasting, cost standards to maximize profitability.  Compares performance with operating plan and standards and reports and interprets the results for the General Manager and Director

  • Responsible for guiding, directing and ensuring customer service and satisfaction.  Successfully resolves and verifies resolution of customer complaints

  • Recruits, hires, coaches, trains and motivates hourly employees; works with Human Resources and General Manager; assures that policies and procedures are followed

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local and regulatory agency laws and guidelines related to the wagering business.  Maintains positive and cooperative relationships within the community and local leaders to ensure local public support

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Past working record must show increasing responsibilities including at least one year of supervisory experience.

Public Safety Officer - Arlington International Racecourse (Arlington Heights, IL)

This position is responsible for the protection, safeguarding, and security of assets, personnel, customers and all visitors.

Job Description:

Our public safety officers are here to promote safety and security to Arlington International Raceourse guests, employees, and the facility. We are willing to provide on the job training to individuals with a can-do attitude.

Vigilance, dedication, and reliability are a must!

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Continuously patrol buildings and grounds, docks or work sites. Racecourse property to include, but not limited to, Grandstand, Trackside, Backstretch, and Parking Areas.
  • Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are in proper working order and secure.
  • Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking or carrying forbidden articles and apprehends or expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.
  • Inspects equipment and machinery to ascertain if tampering has occurred.
  • Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes and security doors left unlocked.
  • Observes departing personnel to guard against theft of company property.
  • Sounds alarm or calls police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons. Permits authorized persons to enter property.
  • Registers at watch stations to record time of inspection trips.
  • Records and reports data such as property damage, unusual occurrences and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment, for use of supervisory staff.
  • Maintains Crowd control in and around the property. Directs the public to designated parking areas.
  • Review and understands the departments standard operating procedures
  • Diligent in managing and executing standard operating procedures.
  • Cash escort duties.
  • Work as security team member in assisting as additional requests arise.

Personal Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.

Assist Arlington International Racecourse Marketing Department by supporting Arlington International digital media initiatives executed via Arlington International social media channels, email campaigns and arlingtonpark.com.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the planning and execution of social media marketing campaigns as assigned by Marketing Promotions Specialist.
  • Curate relevant content to disseminate to Arlington International fans via social media.
  • Monitor discussions regarding Arlington International and engage fans in such discussions, while providing prompt responses to any inquiries posed to the company via social media.

Position Objective:
Responsible for creating an environment of great customer service through action. Responsible for greeting customers, disseminating information, and enforcing policies while maintaining a professional and hospitable manner.

  • Monitor guests as they leave, wishing them a good night, and troubleshooting any end-of-day problems; ensure guests do not exit the premises with alcohol

  • Safely and pleasantly maneuver guests in wheelchairs during complimentary drop off and pick up service

Venue Host/Hostess (Reports to Guest Services Venue Supervisor)

  • Coordinate with other department staff to ensure venue is ready for group’s arrival

Position Objective:

Sales & Marketing: Event Marketing
Seasonal Mascot - Arlington International Racecourse (Arlington Heights, IL)

Position Objective:

Develop the character of Arli, the Arlington International Racecourse mascot, and promote the Arlington brand by performing as Arli on race days and by scheduling appearances and performing as Arli at community outreach events.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform as Arli during all Sunday Family Day race days during the 2017 season and interact with fans throughout the facility to enhance their Arlington Experience
  • Perform as Arli during community outreach events and act as an ambassador of Arlington
  • Actively research, pursue and schedule appearances at community events for Arli and the Arlington Street Team
  • Design, develop and implement new promotions and contests in which Arli can participate
  • Develop creative content for social media channels
  • Regularly maintain and clean the Arli mascot costume

Personal Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform and move easily and fluidly in mascot costume
  • Must be available for approximately 20-30 hours a week
  • Weekend and holiday availability is required
  • Must be outgoing and creative with excellent customer service and communications skills
  • Must be a team player, people-oriented, a good problem solver, detailed, able to communicate clearly and accurately, creative, courteous, professional and enthusiastic.  The ability to communicate both orally and in writing to internal and external contacts is required
  • Must be trustworthy and fully dedicated to do what it takes for the company to be successful

 

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Previous mascot experience preferred, but not required
  • Flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays throughout the entire 2017 season, which runs from May through September
  • Must be extremely punctual

Sales & Marketing: Event Marketing
Seasonal Promotional Team Member - Arlington International Racecourse (Arlington Heights, IL)

Position Objective:

Promote the Arlington International brand by serving as an ambassador at community events and special events taking place at the racetrack.  Team members must be outgoing and energetic individuals who can showcase creativity alongside the hands-on implementation of Marketing team initiatives.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Arlington ambassador at events throughout the community as well as occasional on-site events at Arlington International and represent the Arlington brand with positivity and professionalism.
  • Assist with logistics for community events including setup, execution and tear down.
  • Implement strategies to optimize data capture during all community events.
  • Actively contribute ideas for new community events for the promotional team to attend.
  • Distribute brand and promotional collateral throughout the community.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Arlington International, including venues, events, promotions, history, etc.
  • Engage with supporters, clients, vendors and community members.
  • Help manage the inventory of promotional supplies, equipment and giveaways.
  • Assist with Guest Services and other department initiatives as required.
  • Capture community engagement by assisting with photography of activation and occasionally social media promotions.

Personal Qualifications:

  • Must be available for approximately 15-20 hours a week, varying dependent on Arlington International schedule of events.
  • Weekend and holiday availability is required. Flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays from April through September.
  • Must be outgoing, energetic, friendly, people-oriented, a team player, courteous and able to communicate clearly and accurately.
  • Excellent human relations and communications skills are essential.  The ability to communicate orally to various contacts is required.

  

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Promotional, sales, guest services or marketing experience appreciated

Track/Slot Operations: Facility/Venue Management
Service Supervisor - Green Oaks OTB - Arlington International Racecourse - Green Oaks OTB (Green Oaks, IL)

Position Objective:

This position is responsible for providing customer services under the direction of the OTB Manager.  The position requires the ability to work independently, exercising judgment and initiative in a variety of operational areas, including but not limited to pari-mutuel wagering sales.

                       

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to programs and procedures to enhance the OTB operations in wagering sales

  • Has a good understanding of mutuels, can efficiently generate mutuel tickets for customers and understands the types of wagers. Ability to train customers in operating of self-service machines

  • Ability to protect and reconcile money room and balance funds

  • Provides assistance to Manager as requested including preparation of reports

  • At the direction of or in the absence of the Manager, uses discretion in handling minor customer service and operational issues

  • Responsible for operating and maintaining office equipment; arranges for repairs when necessary

  • Implements administrative polices and procedures in compliance with federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations including personnel issues

  • Prepares and coordinates accident reports and workers compensation reports

  • Assembles racing programs and sells programs to customers

  • Excellent communication skills are a must

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

In the absence of a manager, may be asked to supervise other employees for short durations of time.
